About Her Solid Ground
How it all began
Her Solid Ground started with a shared conviction and four people who refused to look away. Having experienced the invisible struggles of housing insecurity firsthand or through those closest to us, we watched family homelessness quietly rise in our community. When we saw vulnerable single mothers and their children left without a reliable safety net, we knew we couldn’t wait for someone else to step in. Seeing a critical gap in available support systems—and knowing that government resources are stretched thin—we asked a simple question: “Why not us?” Out of that shared commitment to build a better future, Her Solid Ground was born.
Our Vision and Mission
Vision: We stand for dignity, autonomy and stability as the solid ground every mother needs to create a hopeful future for her and her family.
Mission: Her Solid Ground walks alongside mothers experiencing housing insecurity, providing secure homes and structured supports to enhance their stability, independence and sense of self.
Our Approach
Housing is the beginning, not the end.
Finding a safe place to live is critical, but housing alone cannot resolve the complex circumstances that lead to homelessness. Our approach uses stable housing as a launching pad—giving mothers and children the space, dignity, and time required to build a sustainable future.
Our Core Beliefs
We support the whole family: Housing instability impacts family relationships, child development, education, and health. We address the goals and wellbeing of both mothers and children.
We work with women, not on women: Mothers remain at the centre of decisions about their lives. We bring expertise and resources, but we do not assume we know what is best for someone else's life.
Capability, not dependency: True stability isn't built by solving today's problem for someone—it’s built by developing the skills, confidence, financial resilience, and community networks needed to navigate future challenges.
Progress isn't linear: Recovery doesn't follow a rigid calendar. We provide a flexible environment where support adjusts as family circumstances change.
